Gratitude Journal

In Room 5 this term Mrs. Drummond bought us gratitude journals! Gratitude journals are notebooks that we write what we're grateful for in. At the end of the day, we write three things that we're grateful for we cannot do the same thing every day. This is my notebook!

Writing a Haiku

This week we have been writing haikus. These are the rules of a haiku, firstly you have to have five syllables in your first sentence then seven and then five again. In a haiku, you don't have to make it rhyme. This my haiku.

             Splashed on the earth

                           The opposite of fire

A Sun Poem

The sun

The sun is a firey gold coin
blazing in the blue sky.
It is a melting fireball
waiting to be put out.

The sun is a light bulb
rolling in the sky.
It is a bright ball
flushing everyone with heat.

The sun is a 
glowing sphere.
It is a giant lemon
burning in the sky.

Marae Visit

This week we went to the Unitec marae. Whaea Jess and Whaea Linda welcomed us onto the marae. We all took our shoes off and went into the marae. When we got into the marae, my grandpa (Matua Hare) introduced us to the staff. Papa Hau and Whaea Jess taught us some songs and we sang Ka waita to the staff. Then we went and had the best scones ever for morning tea and had a play outside and went headed into the bus. I can't wait for next we had a great time!

Procedure Writing

How to make gummy scones

Ingredients                                         Tools you will need

1 cup of flour                                                       Measuring cups

1\2 teaspoon of baking powder                                 Bowls

30 grams of butter                                               Toothpicks 

1 cup of milk                                                        Teaspoons

1 egg                                                                   Mixing Spoons

3 cups of gummy bears                                         Cupcake tray

1 cup of bacon                                                      Sift

Food coloring of your choice (optional)

Canola spray

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 100°c.

2. Get your bowl and sift your flour into it, poor your gummy bears in as well. 

3. Melt your butter in a bowl until it's liquid. Now, pour it in the bowl where the other ingredients are. 

4. Put the baking powder and the bacon in the bowl.

5. Carefully put your milk and egg in and mix until no lumps except gummy bears.

6.  Now get your toothpick and put it in the food coloring, get your bowl and put in the food coloring, now mix.

7. Get your cupcake tray and spray with canola spray now, pour the batter in and put in the oven. Wait 10-15 min then take out of the oven let cool. 

8. Take scones off of the tray and enjoy!

How to make glue stick lollies              

Ingredients

A pack of fruit bursts

An old glue stick with no glue and clean.   

Microwave

Method


1. Open your pack of fruit burst and gently take all the fruit bursts out.


2. Get your fruit bursts and carefully take the wrappers off and stack the fruit burst (without the wrappers on ) in the old glue stick.

3. Put your glue stick lollie in the microwave for 1 min it should melt.


4. Take out and wait 1 hour to dry.

5. Enjoy!

St Mary Mackillop's Feast Day

Last week it was St Mary Mackillop's feast day. We did some fun activities with Room 3 like making a poster about Mary Mackillop and Mary Mackillop paper statues. My buddies were Rosa and Eva, it was so much fun! I hope we go back to room 3 again. This is what my statue looks like.

Pumanawa

Every week on Monday we go to a classroom for Pumanawa. I'm in Room 6 for Pumanawa! So basically if you're a senior you do ether yoga in library, performing\singing Rm 6, cartooning Rm 5, digital technology and food science. In Rm 6 we're singing a million dreams and Ka waiata and learning about props and costume. This week we made a costume, we got given two big pieces of fabric, pins and two pieces of elastic with that we made a dress! It has been very fun in Rm 6.

The Atlantic Ocean

Last week we were tasked to make a poster on google draw. We could either choose the Atlantic Ocean, Southern Ocean, pacific Ocean, Arctic Ocean or the Indian Ocean. So I chose the Atlantic Ocean! It was very fun researching and finding information about the Atlantic ocean, I learnt some fun facts like the Atlantic Ocean is 106.5 km wide! This is what mine looks like.

 

Science Expeirmrent

Today we did a science experiment! It was about what happens when you put salt on ice, we did it with our table. So basically this is what happened: when you put the salt on the ice it made the ice crackle and made the outside hard. In the end, we got to throw them up into the air and watch them crack I learnt that big ones make bigger cracks and if you put more salt on them it makes a bigger crack.

Egg Sitting

Last week in Room 5 we were egg sitting! It was like looking after a real human, because it needs warmth, love and most of all looking after. Sadly my egg cracked on the second to last day. We learnt a lot about how to keep ourselves safe! 

Keeping Our Self's Safe

We have been learning about how to keep ourselves safe online. I was in a group with Emma. It was really fun and we got to learn lots about keeping ourselves safe!

Book Week

This term we had book character week! I went in a group as the babysitters club. I went as Kristy Thomas, Emma went as Mary Anne Spier, Faith went as Stacey McGill, Rosa went as Claudia Kishi and Mia went as Dawn Schafer. It was a really fun day and we had a Book Week treasure hunt! This is a photo of us.

Maori Art

This week we have been drawing and learning about Peter Gossage's art style. We got to chose a drawing that he has done and either copy it or makeup something. I did a woman doing a hongi to a lily pad with a flower, with mountains. It was great fun! This is what mine looked like.

Water Filtering

Today in Room 5 we were testing different materials to filter water. The materials were cotton balls, paper , sand and bark. We all got to choose buddies I chose Emma. The materials we used were cotton balls a sprinkle of sand then paper and then cotton balls I had great fun! This is what ours looked like.

Country Project

This week we were making country projects. We all got to choose a country though we couldn't have the same country's. I chose Germany as my country! Germany was a very interesting
 country to search up  I had so much fun doing it this is what mine looked like.

Multiplication poster

In room 5 we have been learning how to do long division and long multiplication. We got to make a poster about either multiplication or division. This was about strategies that we have learnt about multiplication or division. I did mine with Emma it was really fun! This is what my poster looked like.

Assembly

Last week we were presenting our assembly in the hall we had two main parts our dance and our play\story. My favourite was the dance it was really fun. We did our dance to a Anzac song and our play to "My grandad marches on Anzac Day". We all had a part to say, mine was introducing the dance. I can't wait for room 5's next assembly!

Harriet Simeon

This week we were making brochure, if you don't know what a brochure is, it is like a pamphlet. We all chose an item from a box. There were many others but we chose Harriet Simeon the first woman pilot. I did mine with Emma it was very fun we also learnt a lot about World War 1 and when people served in the war. It was great searching for information about Harriet Simeon!

R.E pyramid

This week we were making an RE pyramid with the words Faith, Love and hope on them. It was fun writing and drawing on it. My favourite side was the Faith side this is what mine looked like.

Anzac Day art

This week we were doing Anzac art! We coloured in a mindfulness drawing and then made them into a beautiful piece of artwork. We also dyed the background, I made mine ombre. Last week we also made brochures. Mine was about the first woman pilot. Her name was Harriet Simeon. I think it is very important to commemorate Anzac Day because it is a important time to remember the soldiers who died. 

Growth mindset

Last week we were doing Growth Mindset. We all got given a piece of paper to write something on. On that piece of paper, it said to write down strategies to help us get through hard problems. Everybody made them look colourful and pretty. When we were all done it made a big poster that had a brain. Then there were little brains at the bottom. I got one of those. Mine was rainbow. It was fun making them!

Goals

This week we made goals for writing, reading and maths. We had to go through our books and see what we needed to work on. For maths my goal was to round decimals to the nearest whole number. For reading my goal was to make a conclusion or a assumption in a text and for my writing goal it was to add more complex punctuation.

Elephant poster

Last week we got to pick an animal to search its habitat, diet, looks, breeding, endangered to put on a poster. I chose elephants because they are cute and cuddly beautiful animals. People are killing to many elephants for their tusks! Elephants are amazing creatures and we need to look after them.

My poem

This week we are doing this poem writing that we're going to send to another classroom. We got to choose a toy to describe so I chose a pink fluffy teddy bear there was also a ship in a bottle, a plastic spider, a rock, a woman and a compass. I loved making the poem!

Orange day

Last Friday was shine day and we were campaigning against domestic violence. We all dressed up in orange and brought a gold coin. In the morning we took a photo of the whole school and in the classroom with our friends. In the afternoon we went to the swimming sports assembly. I got 2nd in the 25m, 3rd in breaststroke and 2nd in the relays. I had a great day!

Animal rights

Shrove Tuesday

Today is Shrove Tuesday and we saw Father Bernard burn the palms from last year for Ash Wednesday. We also went to room 1 to make pancakes. We are making pancakes because a long time ago Jesus took all the flour and milk to make pancakes that's how they were created In the morning when father burned the palm leaves we all meditated and prayed to God. It was such a fun day!

Growth Mindset

For topic we are doing growth mindset. We had to choose a inspirational quote. I chose this quote because it is happy and kind and it makes people feel good about themselves. It reminds us to be kind.

Swimming Sports

Yesterday we went to the Connolly swimming carnival. It was at West Wave pools. I entered the competitive swimming and did backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke. I had a great time! I came 2nd in 25m, 3rd in 50m and 2nd in the relays. At the start the bus came late and we waited for so long it felt like forever but the bus ended up coming. I'm very happy that Sheppard came 2nd in the relays! I can't wait for next year.

sun smart poster

Today we did our sun smart posters my group was Lucy, Emma and Mia. We made ours look nice and colourful. My group and I put a girl saying "slip on a shirt , slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat, wrap on some sunglasses and slide into the shade". I think this is very important so you don't get sunburn or skin cancer. This is what ours looked like.

Week term 1

This week is the second week of school and I have Mrs Drummond this year😁. I have already had so much fun with my new teacher. Now let me tell you some things we did. We did our class puzzle piece, Maori art and our RE title page. Our puzzle piece is like way to express our personalities like I put a skateboard and an ice cream because I love to skateboard and I love eat ice cream. 😋

Last week the year 5s did their Maori Art for Waitangi Day. The lst thing we did was do a couple of drafts to find the right pattern. 2nd we did our draft of our pattern we chose. 3rd we did the draft picture on our good copy and then we made it beautiful and colorful to go on the wall. This is what my one looked liked. 

I had so much fun!
